I have played Canasta for many years. After finding out I could play online as well I was estatic. I downloaded this version of Canasta and have been addicted ever since. Over the years, I have tried playing other versions of it, but I always come right back to this one. The layout and cards and sounds are the best and easiest to play. Thanks Mark-Jan for giving us this game and for all the free upgrades.
Playing Canasta over the Internet
Canasta supports network play over the Internet or a LAN. The program has a built-in lobby function, which allows you to find other players online to play canasta online.
Please follow these steps to start a network game:
> Download and install Canasta.
> Start the Canasta program.
> Select Network from the menu, then select Lobby.
> Enter a nickname and press Login. If you have a license for Canasta, the nickname you select will remain reserved for you.
> Select the name of a person in the 'Available Players' list and press 'Invite' to start a match. You're now playing!
> If there are no players available, press 'Hide, stay available' to close the Lobby screen while staying available for play.
Technical Information
If you are unable to connect to the Canasta game lobby, there are a couple of things to verify:
> Are you connected to the Internet? If not, connect to the Internet first.
> Do you use a proxy server? If so, use the 'Proxy' button in the Lobby screen to enter your settings.
> Do you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm or Norton Personal Firewall)? If so, make sure that Canasta is allowed to act as a client, and that port 4444 is not blocked.
